(NewsNation) — While much of the country remains uncertain about who will emerge victorious in the race for the White House, more American voters are confident in who will concede the election should they lose, a new Pew Research poll shows.

Research shows that just 24% of those polled believe that former President Donald Trump will concede next month’s election should he lose to Vice President Kamala Harris. Of those 24% who responded, only 4% of Harris’ supporters expect Trump to acknowledge the vice president as the winner should she win the White House.

Among Trump supporters, 46% of those polled believe that Trump will concede the election. Meanwhile, 72% of the more than 5,100 Americans surveyed believe that Harris will acknowledge that she lost the election if Trump claims enough electoral votes to earn a second term in the White House.

The research showed that 95% of Harris supporters believe that the Democrat will acknowledge a Trump victory while about half (48%) of Trump backers said they would expect Harris to concede.

Trump has continued to tell supporters at campaign rallies that he believes the 2020 election in which he was defeated by President Joe Biden was stolen from him. The Republican has continued the claims of a rigged election despite no evidence that anything improper happened in Biden winning the White House.

In the recent Pew Research poll, only 32% of Trump supporters say that should the former president lose to Harris it is very important to them that he acknowledge Harris as the legitimate president. Comparatively, 61% of those planning to vote for Harris say it is very important for the vice president to declare Trump the winner.

The polling takes place as Trump and Harris are locked into a tightly contested battle. National polling shows Harris with a slight lead over the former president, but all of the polls fall within the margin of error. Polling remains especially tight in swing states that likely will determine who wins the election.

The Pew Research poll shows that with less than a month remaining before election day, about 86% of those who were surveyed believe it is clear who will win.

Polling done since September shows that 48% of those surveyed by Pew favor Harris or are leaning toward supporting her while 47% support Trump or are leaning toward voting for the former president. Another 5% of those surveyed say that they are leaning toward supporting a third-party candidate in the upcoming election.
