(NewsNation) — The failed assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has spurred two Florida men to get tattoos commemorating the incident.

Images of the moments following Saturday’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, have been splashed across the world’s front pages — Trump’s ear bleeding with his right hand clenched in a fist above the Secret Service agents surrounding him after he was shot. Now, the image is being permanently tattooed onto people’s legs.

Franco Gomez, a Florida tattoo artist, has started a tattoo on one man’s leg, which features a newspaper cutout surrounding the iconic image. The session took about six hours, and he still has another to complete.

“We were half an inch from a different reality. If you’re going to do a piece that’s impactful, that captures a very important, pivotal moment in American history, that’s the one,” Gomez told NewsNation.

Many tattoo artists say they aren’t surprised by the tattoos themselves, but more so by the shooting.

Hannah Cash, an artist at After The Fallout Tattoos, was working as the news of the shooting aired. A man who was in her chair at the time wanted to keep his identity hidden, but not the reason for his tattoo.

“He got this tattoo for the resilience in the face of adversity,” Cash told NewsNation.

The news of the incident was unfolding, and within two hours, without even really knowing what had happened, the man had a tattoo memorializing that moment with the word “fight.”
