Harris leads Trump by 6 points after debate: Poll
- Harris gets 51% support in postdebate Morning Consult poll
- Vice president widened predebate 3-point advantage
- Debate was seen as a critical moment for Harris
(NewsNation) — Postdebate polling published Tuesday by Morning Consult shows Vice President Kamala Harris leads former President Donald Trump by 6 percentage points — a new record high for the Democratic presidential nominee.
Harris widened her lead over Trump in the survey conducted after they clashed at their debate last week. Trump, on the other hand, lost support.
The data shows Harris getting the support of 51% of all voters, while 45% of all voters said they back Trump. The vice president is now up from a 3-point advantage predebate.
“Most likely voters who watched the debate (61%) — including 1 in 5 Republicans — said Harris performed best, compared with 33% who said Trump was the winner,” according to Morning Consult.
The debate was seen as a critical moment for the vice president, who needed to introduce her policy ideas to voters and present a stark contrast between her and Trump.
The Morning Consult survey was conducted Sept. 13-15 among 11,022 likely voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 1 percentage points.
