(NewsNation) — After President Joe Biden exited the 2024 election, eyes have turned to his heir apparent. While Kamala Harris said she intends to earn the Democratic presidential nomination, what’s her net worth?

When it comes to finances, the vice president’s wealth has increased during her time in the White House.

Net worth is the value of the assets a person owns minus the liabilities they owe. Here’s a closer look at Kamala Harris’ wealth.

What’s Kamala Harris’ net worth?

The vice president’s net worth is currently $8 million, according to the latest Forbes estimates. That represents an increase from $7 million in 2021, when Biden was inaugurated, and a rise from $6 million in 2019.

Some of Harris’ largest assets include real estate and her pensions.

Kamala Harris’ real estate

A breakdown of Harris’ assets shows her Los Angeles home, owned with her husband Doug Emhoff, is her largest asset. The home, which Emhoff bought in 2012, is the couple’s only piece of real estate right now.

The 3,500-square-foot home in Brentwood boasts four bedrooms and is less than a mile from Sunset Boulevard. It’s currently valued at $4.4 million, and the second couple still owes on it.

Soon after Harris became vice president, she sold two of her properties and moved into the Vice President’s Residence on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Observatory. The couple does not have to pay to live in the 9,150-square-foot, Victorian-era home that sits on about 12 acres of land.

In 2021, the Bay Area native sold her San Francisco apartment for $860,000 and her apartment in Washington, D.C.

Harris bought the San Francisco loft in the South of Market neighborhood for $489,000 in 2004 while serving as the city’s first Black attorney general.

When she was elected to the Senate in 2017, she paid $1.775 million for her two-bedroom Westlight apartment in D.C. in Washington’s West End.

Kamala Harris’ pensions

Harris has roughly $1 million in pensions from state, local and federal governments, Forbes reports. She makes a little over $235,000 annually as vice president.

The rest of her wealth can be attributed to investments, retirement accounts and her husband’s IRA.

Harris’ book deals

Book deals have also contributed to Kamala Harris’ riches. The vice president has authored three books.

Her writing journey began in 2009 with the criminal justice policy book “Smart on Crime.” In 2019, she wrote her memoir, “The Truths We Hold: An American Journey,” and the children’s book “Superheroes Are Everywhere.”

The books reportedly made her roughly $350,000 in 2020, $450,000 in 2021, $80,000 in 2022 and $8,500 in 2023.
