(NewsNation) — Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly has ripped the coverage of Melania Trump and former President Donald Trump’s marriage, rebuking the notion she isn’t committed to her husband.

Kelly joined “On Balance with Leland Vittert” at the RNC Thursday night, ahead of Melania’s rare appearance on the campaign trail.

The former FOX and NBC News host dismissed criticism of Melania’s decision to not speak at the convention.

“I think it’s absurd. That’s all CNN was talking about tonight… Of course, the implication is she doesn’t like him,” Kelly said. “Well, if she doesn’t like him, she had plenty of opportunity to divorce him and she didn’t do it.

“But I think the marriage itself is not going anywhere… She’s not a political animal,” Kelly added. “She doesn’t really want this. We’ve known that since she ran the first time.

“So I think her showing up here tonight is to say ‘I’m with him. Don’t second guess me.’ But she’s not really a public figure.

“And unlike Jill Biden, she’s never leaned into being this first lady who’s everywhere trying to seize the mantle of power.”
