(NewsNation) — The race for the White House and control of Congress is centered in Wisconsin, where incumbent Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin faces a tight race with Republican candidate Eric Hovde.
According to the latest Emerson College polling, Baldwin leads by just 1%, with 49% of voters supporting her and 48% backing Hovde.
Hovde, a businessman, has campaigned on key Republican issues such as immigration and the economy while tying Baldwin to President Joe Biden.
“We’ve been talking about the issues and hitting the messages about what’s going on in the economy, our open southern border, how extremely left Senator Baldwin has been, and how she’s never reached across the aisle any kind of compromise. You talk about somebody who’s just been a rubber stamp for whatever the progressive left wants, both with Joe Biden 95.5% of time,” Hovde told “Morning in America” Tuesday.
Hovde easily secured the GOP nomination and received endorsement from former President Donald Trump.
“I appreciate President Trump’s endorsement of me. We’ll be on the campaign trail together,” he said. “Running hard, fortunately, I’ve been able to get, unity within my party.”
Hovde added: “I believe we need to heal the division in our politics and try to bring people together. That’s another message that I’ve been driving home. We need to come together as Americans, stop putting on the blue or the red jersey and fight amongst ourselves.”
