(NewsNation) — Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz called former President Donald Trump and Sen. JD Vance “weird” during a rally Tuesday in Philadelphia, and Trump’s daughter-in-law is throwing the insult back at him.

“I think it’s kind of weird to put female hygiene products in boys’ bathrooms starting in fourth grade, which is something Gov. Tim Walz did,” Lara Trump, the co-chair of the Republican National Committee, said Wednesday on “Morning in America.” “Those things are weird.”

Walz and Democrats have been leaning heavily into the “weird” attack in recent days.

“Trump would damn sure take us backward. Let’s be clear about that,” Walz said during Tuesday night’s rally. “And don’t believe him when he plays dumb, he knows exactly what Project 2025 will do to restrict our freedoms.”

Walz continued, “I can’t wait to debate the guy (JD Vance). That is if he’s willing to get off the couch and show up.”

Verbal attacks against Trump, Vance

Lara Trump claimed Vice President Kamala Harris and Walz are using the verbal attack against Donald Trump because they can’t attack his policy record, which she said speaks for itself.

“The truth of the matter is the policy that Donald Trump had in place when he was president made everyone’s lives better,” Lara Trump argued. “They can’t talk about the policies on the left because they know the policy that worked were actually Donald Trump’s.”

However, during Tuesday night’s rally, Harris spoke deeply about women’s reproductive and abortion rights, while Walz shared a sentimental story about him and his wife going through fertility treatments in an attempt to resonate with millions of Americans.

The two candidates avoided speaking about immigration and the economy, two issues Republicans have zeroed in on in their attacks against Harris.

Trump isn’t ‘playing dumb’

Lara Trump also said her father-in-law isn’t “playing dumb” by denouncing Project 2025, which Democrats have sought to tie to the former president. She claimed that not only did Donald Trump denounce the entire campaign, but the RNC denounced it and Project 2025 has been negated.

She accused Democrats of spreading “lies and these personal attacks” because of an inability to talk policy.

Lara Trump challenged Harris and Walz to talk about their platform and vision for the country but doubted they would get past using “weird” and couch comments as a campaign strategy.

She added that her father-in-law is focused on winning a second term, especially in the wake of the July 13 assassination attempt against him.

“You know, you always know that these people exist out there, that this is a possibility and it’s a threat. But I can tell you, after that assassination attempt, and I’ve never seen Donald Trump more focused on winning than he is right now, I think he believes, and I think a lot of people believe, he got a second chance at life,” Lara Trump said.
