WASHINGTON (NewsNation Now) — A bipartisan group of lawmakers wants to kickstart stalled coronavirus stimulus negotiations. The group is made up of 25 Democrats and 25 Republicans and they’re urging congressional leaders to get back to the table.
“The American people deserve us to find that common ground on this issue. And us in the problem solvers caucus are committed to finding you know, that 80% position where that’s a victory; that’s not a defeat. I can tell you, there’s fertile ground here for us to find,” said Rep. Tom Reed (R-N.Y.)
Congress hasn’t been able to pass a relief measure for months; Senate Democrats Thursday blocked a slimmed-down GOP bill. Senate Republicans won’t take up House Democrats’ legislation.
Virginia Democratic Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger says issues like improving telehealth access are low-hanging fruit. It’s something she says can win broad support.
“What I’m hearing on the ground from constituents is that they want to see forward movement on things that really matter. And one of the things that really matters on the ground here in central Virginia is access to telehealth,” said Spanberger.
The bipartisan group is urging congressional leaders to hit restart and focus on where a majority of lawmakers can come together. Both the House and the Senate will be in Washington next week.
