(NewsNation) — Actor, director and vocal President Joe Biden supporter George Clooney called the White House to complain about Biden’s criticism of the International Criminal Court (ICC), according to a report in The Washington Post.

The ICC issued arrest warrants for the leaders of Israel and Hamas over the war in Gaza, and the organization co-founded by Clooney’s wife, Amal, reviewed evidence of suspected war crimes.

Biden denounced the arrest warrants targeting Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, calling them “outrageous.”

Cooney is worried that, when the White House initially said it was open to sanctioning the ICC, his wife may be subject to those penalties, according to the Post report. The newspaper says the actor spoke to presidential counselor Steve Ricchetti about his concerns.

Clooney is scheduled to appear at a fund-raiser for Biden in Los Angeles on June 15, an event that will also include former president Barack Obama, late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel and actress Julia Roberts.

One of the centerpieces of the fundraiser has been a contest for supporters: an all-expenses-paid trip to the event and the opportunity to meet Clooney, Obama and Roberts. Despite nervous moments since Clooney’s outreach last month, the Post quotes sources saying he will attend the event.
