(NewsNation) — Vice President Kamala Harris went head-to-head with former President Donald Trump Tuesday evening in the first presidential debate between the pair, but it’s unclear if they’ll debate again.
Will there be another debate between Trump and Harris?
It’s unclear whether the pair will debate again. Harris said she wants to debate Trump again and extended an offer Tuesday.
Trump hasn’t committed to a second debate and told “Fox & Friends” he was “not inclined to.”
“I won the debate by a lot,” Trump said. “But I think we let it settle and let’s see what happens.”
What did Harris’ campaign say?
Harris’ campaign staff suggested the candidates debate again next month.
“Under the bright lights, the American people got to see the choice they will face this fall at the ballot box: between moving forward with Kamala Harris, or going backwards with Trump,” Harris campaign Chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in an official statement. “That’s what they saw tonight and what they should see at a second debate in October. She added, “Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?”
What did Trump’s campaign say?
Trump has previously tried to schedule three debates with Harris but the candidates haven’t always been on the same page. Following her campaign’s remarks Tuesday, Trump said his team would think about participating in another debate. He also said he interpreted the request as an admission of defeat on Harris’ part.
“She wants to do another one because she was beaten tonight,” Trump told reporters after Tuesday’s debate. “I don’t know if we’re going to do another one. She wants a second debate because she lost tonight, very badly… we’ll think about that.”
When is the vice presidential debate?
The candidates’ vice presidential picks — Republican Sen. JD Vance of Ohio and Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota — are scheduled for an Oct. 1 debate in New York City. NewsNation will provide coverage of the event.
