CHICAGO (NewsNation Now) — The two presidential campaigns hit the road Thursday with a particular focus on the state of Arizona. Vice President Mike Pence was there and so was the Democratic ticket.

President Donald Trump was still sidelined back at the White House, but was making his viewpoint abundantly clear.

In an interview from the White House on Thursday morning, the president suggested his opponent was too frail for the top job.

“Biden won’t be president for two months,” said Trump. “He’s not mentally capable.”

Then he went after Biden’s running mate Sen. Kamala Harris.

“This monster that was on stage with Mike Pence, who destroyed her last night by the way,” said Trump. “She’s a communist. She’s not a socialist. She’s well beyond a socialist. Take a look at her views.”

In Arizona, Biden defended Harris — the first woman of color on a major party ticket — and said the president’s comments were “despicable.”

“This is one of the finest persons I’ve ever dealt with. This is a person who is ready on day one to be President of the United States of America,” said Biden. “This person has more integrity in her little finger than most people have in their whole body. And the idea — it’s obvious he cannot — he has great difficulty dealing with strong women. Great difficulty.”

Vice President Pence was in Arizona Thursday as well.

“We had a little debate; some people think we did all right,” said Pence.
