WASHINGTON (NewsNation Now) — The Postal Service is again in the spotlight on Capitol Hill. Democrats held another hearing Monday focused on mail-in balloting and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.
Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA.) charged that USPS leaders are trying to undermine the election.
“We know postal workers can handle the volume of that election mail,” said Connolly. “The question is whether those at the helm are taking steps to hinder that capacity and slow it down in ways that hurt the prospects of a fair election but benefit one candidate’s re-election campaign.”
Jody Hice (R-GA.) said the Democrat-led hearing was really aimed at hurting President Donald Trump.
“This is, in my opinion, as close to a kangaroo court as anything I’ve seen” she said. “And given the reckless apathy towards facts and truth as Democrats have exhibited throughout this entire affair, it’s clear that this so-called hearing is nothing more than a further attempt at political assassination.”
Postal Service officials were not present at the hearing.
Some state officials, meanwhile, say a Postal Service mailer sent to nearly every household in America is misleading. Postal officials say they’re providing voters with helpful information.
