WASHINGTON (NewsNation) — Hunter Biden’s former business partner, Devon Archer met with members of the House Oversight Committee for more than four hours Monday, during which he faced intense questioning about claims that President Joe Biden was directly involved in his son’s financial dealings.

Archer testified that Hunter Biden put his father, then Vice President, on speakerphone in the presence of business partners more than 20 times throughout the course of their relationship, according to lawmakers present for the briefing.

Rep. Dan Goldman, one of the leading Democrats of the House Oversight Committee, told reporters Archer provided no evidence of wrongdoing, insisting these conversations were not nefarious.

“When one of them called the other, Hunter Biden would ask his father to say ‘hello’ to whomever was at dinner with,” Goldman said. “The witness was unequivocal and stated very clearly that they never discussed any business.”

According to Goldman, Archer testified that Hunter Biden was trying to give the “illusion” of access to his father. But GOP Rep. James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, doubled down on the idea that Archer’s testimony validated then-Vice President Joe Biden’s alleged involvement.

“Devon Archer’s testimony today confirms Joe Biden lied to the American people when he said he had no
knowledge about his son’s business dealings and was not involved,” Comer said in a statement. “Joe Biden was ‘the brand’ that his son sold around the world to enrich the Biden family.”

“This raises concerns that Hunter Biden was in violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act,” he added.

Matthew L. Schwartz, Managing Partner of Boies Schiller Flexner LLP and counsel to Devon Archer said both sides of the political aisle “are claiming victory following Mr. Archer’s voluntary interview today.”

“But all Devon Archer did was exactly what we said he would: show up and answer the questions put to him honestly and completely,” Schwartz said in a statement to NewsNation. “Mr. Archer shared the truth with the Committee, and we will leave it to them and others to decide what to do with it.”

The president has not been formally linked to any criminal wrongdoing.

During his presidential campaign in 2019, the senior Biden told reporters, “I have never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings.”

The White House, though, appears to be shifting its language from saying the president had never “spoken” about those business dealings with his son, to never being in “business” with his son.

Asked if the president had been involved or spoken to his son about his business, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a recent press briefing: “I’ve been asked this question a million times. The answer is not going to change. The answer remains the same: The President… was never in business with his son.”
