(NewsNation) — The U.S. Capitol Police announced it has closed its investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding a Senate sex video that was recorded inside the Hart Senate Office Building and leaked in December.
It was determined there was no evidence a crime was committed, and therefore, the Senate staffer and partner allegedly featured in the video will not face any charges.
“After consulting with federal and local prosecutors, as well as doing a comprehensive investigation and review of possible charges, it was determined that — despite a likely violation of Congressional policy — there is currently no evidence that a crime was committed,” the statement read.
The congressional staffer has resigned from his job.
Regardless of the closure, the agency said it would be willing to review new evidence if any had come to light.
