CHICAGO (NewsNation) — Planned Parenthood’s mobile health clinic is gearing up to give out more than party favors at the Democratic National Convention this week.

The Planned Parenthood Great Rivers shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, that its van will be parked in the city’s West Loop — mere minutes from the DNC’s venue, the United Center — to provide free vasectomies and medication abortion on Aug. 19 and 20.

The Chicago Abortion Fund and Windy City food mainstay The Wieners Circle are working with PPH. Procedures are by appointment only.

The pop-up care aligns with Vice President Kamala Harris‘ adamant abortion platform. The Democratic nominee is in favor of legalizing abortion nationwide, previously calling it a “fundamental freedom” in an MSNBC interview.

Harris has also claimed that “everything is at stake” regarding women’s reproductive rights in the 2024 election, pointing to the overturning of Roe v. Wade and former President Donald Trump‘s more stringent views.

Carolyn Golojuch, a Hawaii social worker, told NewsNation that her top priorities at this week’s convention are healthcare and access to reproductive rights.

“The ability for people to choose for themselves what to do with their body. That really is a personal decision and you can’t take that away from anybody,” she said.

When is the 2024 DNC?

The four-day event begins on Aug. 19, just one month after the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisc.

Harris became the official nominee of the Democratic Party on Aug. 2 following a virtual roll call in which she secured enough delegates to get the nomination. Harris has since announced Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.

Who’s headlining the DNC?

Expected speakers include President Joe Biden, former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, among other Democratic big names.

More than 50,000 attendees are expected to visit Chicago, with at least 5,000 delegates expected in attendance.

NewsNation’s Devan Markham, Stephanie Whiteside and Pat Hunt contributed to this report.
