It is unclear which documents are new and which ones have been released unredacted.

Little new information on JFK assassination

The long-awaited release of the remaining JFK files did not give much new information. Early reviews of the files suggested that much of the material has been previously available in some form. Some documents also remained redacted, despite Trump’s remarks that he wanted them released unredacted.

“We have a tremendous amount of paper. You’ve got a lot of reading. I don’t believe we’re going to redact anything. I said, just don’t redact. You can’t redact,” Trump said.

Trump announced the release to reporters at the Kennedy Center, stating that he had not read the files but called them “very interesting.”

Jeffrey Epstein files

Most of the files regarding Kennedy’s assassination had already been declassified. The other files most likely remained classified because of sensitive information. This could include the names of informants who might still be alive and potential safe houses that could still be in use.

Trump already released initial files of the Jeffrey Epstein case, which also turned out to consist of information that was mostly already known. Those files had also been released to a small group of conservative influencers at first, bypassing traditional media.

Republicans in Congress expressed disappointment with how the Epstein files were released, and they pushed the Trump administration for more transparency.

Trump promised release of MLK Jr., RFK files

A White House official told NewsNation that 50,000 pages would be on the website Tuesday and 30,000 pages would be available Wednesday, totaling 80,000 pages. On Tuesday, around 63,000 pages were released on the website.

Trump promised the release of those files, as well as files related to the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy and files related to accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

All three cases have been the subject of conspiracy theories, and there has long been public pressure to release them.
