(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to a 30-day ceasefire against energy and infrastructure in Ukraine and Russia.

On Tuesday, the pair spoke for two hours as the United States pushes for a permanent ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

“Both leaders agreed this conflict needs to end with a lasting peace,” a White House statement read.

“They also stressed the need for improved bilateral relations between the United States and Russia. The blood and treasure that both Ukraine and Russia have been spending in this war would be better spent on the needs of their people.”

In addition to the energy and infrastructure ceasefire, a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, and a “full ceasefire and permanent peace” negotiations will begin with immediacy in the Middle East.

The Kremlin released its readout outlining that a “key condition” of a ceasefire would be for foreign military aid and intelligence sharing for Ukraine to “completely cease.”

Two of the world’s most prominent leaders spoke via phone and discussed a proposed ceasefire deal orchestrated by the Trump administration.

The call ended around noon after beginning at 10 a.m. ET with White House Deputy Chief of Staff, Dan Scavino noting discussions were “going well.”

Steve Witkoff, special envoy to the Middle East, met with Putin in Moscow last week ahead of Tuesday’s conversation.

Trump commented on his call with Putin later Tuesday via Truth Social, noting it was “a very good and productive one.”

“Many elements of a Contract for Peace were discussed, including the fact that thousands of soldiers are being killed, and both President Putin and President Zelenskyy would like to see it end,” he added. “That process is now in full force and effect, and we will, hopefully, for the sake of Humanity, get the job done!”
