Hallow prayer app climbs to no. 1 free app on Apple
- Prayer app Hallow debuted a commercial during Super Bowl
- App saw a spike in downloads after ad premiered Sunday
- CEO says people were encouraged to pray for first time in a long time
(NewsNation) — A day after saying that prayer app Hallow saw its most downloads in a single minute during the SuperBowl, its CEO said it is ranked as the #1 free app on Apple.
“For the first time in history Jesus has the #1 app in the App Store,” Hallow CEO Alex Jones said on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter. In another post, he touted that the company was able to do that with only 80 employees.
The day before, Hallow had been no. 37 in Apple’s Top Charts for free apps. Google Play shows Hallow has over 5 million downloads on the platform.
Hallow has both free and paid subscription options. Its Super Bowl ad premiered in 15 markets, according to Fox News, and featured actor Mark Wahlberg praying.
“God, we take this moment just to give you thanks,” Wahlberg said in the commercial. “We thank you for this time to come together as a family as friends and as a country.”
In an interview with NewsNation’s Adrienne Bankert, Jones said the goal of the commercial wasn’t to try to be “preachy,” but rather invite people into “five minutes of silence, 10 minutes of silence with God.”
Speaking to the National Catholic Register Monday, Jones said he was “blown away” by the responses to the commercial.
“We’ve heard from many who were inspired to join us and give prayer a try for the first time in a long time this Lent,” he said.
