Insider: Jets Zach Wilson 'Evaluating' Trade Options

With the New York Jets already informing him of their intentions this offseason, Zach Wilson has reportedly begun looking at potential new teams.

The end of the Zach Wilson era for the New York Jets is seemingly no longer an if. Rather, it is now a matter of when.

Not only has Wilson's status been made abundantly clear by Jets' owner Woody Johnson's recent comments about not having a "backup quarterback" this past season. But a new report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler has revealed that the former BYU Cougar is already looking for a new home.

"I'm told that New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has begun evaluating trade options, including teams that would be good fits," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler writes about Wilson's status. "He's open to playing for an offensive-minded head coach, something he has never had in New York."

The once-promising product out of BYU, who made waves at his Pro Day with his impressive arm talent, has failed to develop into the franchise quarterback that the Jets hoped he would three years in.

Even after spending last offseason learning behind a future Pro Football Hall of Famer in Aaron Rodgers, before he tore his Achilles just four snaps into the new season, Wilson failed to improve in his 11 games as the starter.

The 24-year-old threw for 2,271 yards with just eight touchdowns and seven interceptions this past season. The continued struggles even saw Wilson benched at midseason in favor of Tim Boyle, a career backup.

And while New York would cut Boyle after just two starts, forcing Wilson back on the field, his fate was seemingly already sealed. According to reports, after the benching, the Jets informed the former No. 2 overall pick they'd be parting ways in the offseason.

With the offseason in full bloom, Wilson and the Jets will be looking toward a new chapter.
