Harris ‘wrong’ to say Trump ‘tanked’ border deal: Sen. Ron Johnson
- Immigration a top issue for Harris and Trump campaigns
- Harris redirects attacks over immigration onto Trump
- Ron Johnson: Trump is not to blame for bill being rejected
(NewsNation) — Immigration remains a top issue for both the Harris and Trump presidential campaigns.
The Harris campaign redirected recent attacks over the immigration issue back onto Trump at a rally, as the vice president called out the former president for directing his allies to vote down a bipartisan border deal.
“Donald Trump tanked the bipartisan border security deal because for Donald Trump, this has never been about solutions,” a Harris campaign spokesperson said. “Like everything with Donald Trump, it’s never been about helping the country, it’s only about helping himself. There’s only one candidate in this race who will fight for bipartisan solutions to strengthen border security, and that’s Vice President Harris.”
Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., responded, discussing the remarks on NewsNation, saying that the Harris campaign is “wrong” and that we “can’t blame Donald Trump.”
“It was an awful bill. It would have weakened the authority of a president who was serious about clearing the border,” Johnson said on “The Hill.” “It should not have been passed.”
