(NewsNation) — A Florida man had an unforgettable day out on the open water Sunday when, about 15 miles off the coast of Sarasota, he had a face-to-face encounter with a great white shark.
“It’s just a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Brian Paul Jung told NewsNation. “People travel the globe to have the opportunity to take a peek at a great white shark.”
Jung recorded footage that captured the encounter where a shark headbutts his camera several times before indulging a whale carcass, according to Storyful.
Jung said the ocean is his second home, but this was his first great white shark encounter.
“Couldn’t get close enough,” Jung said. “First time, probably the last time, but not soon to be forgotten.”
Jung told Storyful that he and a group of friends had ventured out on a boat to find the carcass of a sperm whale that had recently appeared just off the coast of Venice, Florida, before being towed offshore.
“We located the carcass and there were three great white sharks eating off the blubber on the whale,” he said.
