Woman who visited all countries encourages others to solo travel

(NewsNation) — Jessica Nabongo has traveled to all 195 countries, becoming the first Black woman to document this feat.
Nabongo was born and raised in Detroit. She said her Ugandan parents loved to travel, and she began traveling internationally at a young age to Canada and then to places in the summer like Mexico, Jamaica, and the Grand Cayman.
“For me, it just was so much a part of my everyday life. Every year, even if it was domestic, we always went on vacation,” she said on “Morning in America.”
Nabongo said she was already on her way to accomplishing the goal once she discovered that no woman had accomplished visiting every country in the world.
“Less people have been to every country in the world in outer space, over 600 people in outer space, and less than 400 have been to every country,” she said. “There’s one black man who’s done it.”
Nabongo said she believes her travels mean more to other people because she’s “sort of become a blueprint” for travelers.
‘Whether female travelers, black travelers, a lot of people look at what I do, and they feel more comfortable going out and exploring the world,” she said.
She added: “I’ve been to 96 countries solo including so-called dangerous countries. I hope that women hear me, they follow my Instagram and they feel like I can go and I can do this. Don’t wait for your friends because you shouldn’t be putting your life on hold for other people.”
Nabongo said she was “elevated” to complete her goal of traveling to every country, but it doesn’t mean she’s done exploring the world.
“It wasn’t like, Okay, check this off. I’m done,” she said. “I’ve been to 53 countries more than once. I’m working on a new book now. So, this year, I’ll travel to around 25 countries. So I will always travel because it’s just a part of who I am.”
Nabongo published “The Catch Me If You Can”, which highlights 100 of her favorite countries. She’s currently working on a new book.
