President Biden will give an update on a 2022 expansion of health benefits for veterans at an event in New Hampshire Tuesday.
Biden will speak with veterans and their families about the implementation of the PACT Act, which increased access to treatment for toxic chemical exposure. Military service has often led to such exposure.
Proximity to burn pits used for trash disposal has a common hazard in recent years. A history of exposure to the herbicide Agent Orange is also common among those receiving benefits under the law.
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the program is “perhaps the largest health care and benefit expansion in VA history.”
Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) Denis McDonough reports that the VA has had to speed up its processing as the more than 4 million total PACT Act claims kept ahead of its capacity. More than 880,000 veterans have now received disability benefits through the program.
