(News Nation) —  Facebook on Wednesday took down a video by President Donald Trump in which he said children are “almost immune” to COVID-19, with the company saying it violated its rules against sharing misinformation about the coronavirus.

“This video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from COVID-19, which is a violation of our policies around harmful COVID misinformation,” a Facebook spokesperson confirmed to News Nation.

The CDC reports most children are not at a higher risk for coronavirus than adults, noting “while some children and infants have been sick with COVID-19, adults make up most of the known cases to date. However, a few children have developed multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C).”

“Children do get infected, we know that, so therefore they’re not immune,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, testified to Congress at the end of July. “I must say that when children get infected, when you look at the deleterious consequences they generally do much, much better because if you look at the hospitalizations that children have a much, much lower rate of hospitalizations than adults and if you look, the curve goes way up as you get older and older and when you get to the age group of children, they generally do not get serious disease as much.”

The Facebook spokesperson said it was the first time that the social media company had removed a Trump post for coronavirus misinformation.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
