(NewsNation) — A group of House Democrats wrote a letter to President Joe Biden urging him to use all the tools at his disposal, including executive action, to address border security.
The White House places the blame for inaction on House Republicans.
Lawmakers from key battleground states including Arizona, Nevada, Michigan and Pennsylvania signed the letter, calling on Biden to take executive action at the southern border.
In a letter obtained by NewsNation, 15 House Democrats wrote that Biden needs to “use all the tools” at his disposal to “restore order at the southern border and fix our broken immigration system.”
Immigration and the border remain top concerns for voters who have spoken to NewsNation along the campaign trail.
Biden declined to say whether he would take executive action at the border, but it’s something the administration has been weighing behind the scenes. Sources told NewsNation the administration hasn’t made any final decisions.
The White House continues to call on Congress to act.
“Congressional Republicans chose to put partisan politics ahead of our national security, and rejected what border agents have said they need,” a White House spokesperson said in a statement to NewsNation. “We continue to call on Speaker Johnson and House Republicans to pass the bipartisan deal to secure the border.”
That bipartisan border deal collapsed earlier this year. Talks remain stalled on Capitol Hill.
