McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — Several U.S. ports of entry on the Southwest border will temporarily close on Wednesday for the anniversary to honor the victims of 9/11.

Brownsville, Texas

The Veterans International Bridge in Brownsville, Texas, will be closed to traffic from 6:45 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Wednesday for the 23rd Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony to honor victims who died on Sept. 11, 2001, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials announced.

Laredo, Texas

The Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge in Laredo, Texas, also will be closed from 6:45 a.m. to 8 a.m., for a 9/11 remembrance ceremony, CBP officials said.

To aid traffic flow in Laredo, the nearby Colombia-Solidarity International Bridge will open an hour earlier — at 7 a.m., CBP officials said.

All Arizona ports of entry

In Arizona, all inbound and outbound vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be temporarily halted for a moment of silence on Wednesday to honor victims of 9/11, CBP says.

Southern California ports

In Southern California, a moment of silence also will briefly halt northbound traffic at these land ports of entry at 5:46 a.m. PT, according to CBP’s San Diego Field Office:

  • San Ysidro Port of Entry
  • Otay Mesa Port of Entry
  • Tecate Port of Entry
  • Calexico East and West Ports of Entry
  • Andrade Port of Entry

Travelers can monitor border wait times via this link on the CBP website.

Nearly 3,000 people died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.
