MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police have arrested two people connected to a kidnapping at a Sycamore View Road motel and a robbery and shooting at a Summer Avenue business in Memphis last Tuesday.
Naquavus Collier, 22, and Makayla Powell, 24, are both charged with aggravated robbery and especially aggravated kidnapping and burglary.
Investigators said Collier was identified by one of the victims, and Powell was the owner of a silver Dodge Journey captured on camera leaving the Summer Avenue shooting.
A man told police he was kidnapped at gunpoint from the Fair View Inn on Sycamore View Road by two men and two women.
The victim said the suspects forced him into the back seat of a silver Dodge SUV, took his wallet and cell phone, and forced him to take them to another friend’s residence and knock on the door.
Investigators said the suspects drove to an apartment above the Storage Locker on Summer, forced their way inside, robbed a woman, and shot her boyfriend in the leg. A camera outside the business showed one man was still firing a gun as they fled the scene.
The man who was kidnapped said he was taken back to the OYO Hotel on Shelby Oaks Drive but was able to escape and call the police. Officers said they located the Dodge Journey at the hotel.
Collier is being held on $222,500 bond. Powell’s bail was set at $150,000. Both are scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
