MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Bodycam footage was released of police visiting an Arkansas home where they say three children were abandoned last month.
New details have come to light regarding a mother’s alleged abandonment of her three young children and the desperate call that led to her arrest.
On July 14, a 15-year-old girl called the police fearing for her and her brothers’ lives.
“I got to say something before something else happens. We’ll end up dead somewhere,“ she said.
The teenager pleaded with officers to remove her from the home.
In the body camera footage, the girl could be heard saying “If y’all don’t get me out of this house I’m running away. I’m not staying here sir. If you make me stay here you’ll have to take me to jail. I’m not saying here.”
The children’s mother Latisha Davis had been gone overnight, allegedly leaving the teen, a one-year-old, and a three-year-old without food. Bodycam footage shows an officer finding only milk in the fridge.
Officers also found the temperature in the home to be over 90 degrees. The teen told police that the central air in the home had been off since the day before.
She revealed this was not the first time her mother had left the children home alone.
“I don’t feel safe here she does this every single night,” said the girl.
Davis later claimed her car broke down and her phone died.
“As you were calling me, my phone went completely dead. That’s what I was telling the lady on the phone. And my truck went completely down,” Davis told police.
Davis was arrested on three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
She has since bonded out on a $10,000 bond, but police say her children are no longer in her custody.
Davis’ next court date is scheduled for August 28.
