LAWRENCE, Kan. (NewsNation Now) — Kansas coach Les Miles announced Thursday that he tested positive for coronavirus. He is now quarantining at home, where he plans to fulfill his head coaching responsibilities remotely as the Jayhawks spend a week off before visiting West Virginia.

Miles announced his positive results in a statement Thursday:

“Today, I was notified that I have tested positive for COVID-19. I am beginning the isolation process at my home and will continue to fulfill my head coach responsibilities remotely,” Miles said. “Although I will not physically be able to attend practice for the time being, I will be using the technology available for remote working to stay connected during staff meetings, meetings with players, etc. Thank you for your prayers and support in advance. I look forward to beating this virus and returning back to be with my team in person very soon. Rock Chalk!”

The university didn’t state if other players or staff have tested positive. However, the Jayhawks have had clusters of positive tests since the beginning of the season.

Athletic director Jeff Long said Miles’ result came back through routine testing and the school is going through contact tracing protocols to notify anybody who has been in contact with him. Long said if Miles does not have a fever or other symptoms, there is a chance he could be able to coach against the Mountaineers on Oct. 17.

The Jayhawks are off to an 0-3 start in Miles’ second season in Lawrence.
