Missouri WWI museum serving as polling site vandalized with anti-voting message
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (NewsNation Now) — The National WWI Museum and Memorial in Missouri’s Kansas City was vandalized Tuesday with an anti-voting message.
The museum reported that its stonework was defaced Tuesday morning, according to a statement on Twitter. A photo posted by the museum shows messages of “Don’t vote!” and “Fight for revolution” spray-painted in red on the side of the memorial.
The museum is also serving as a polling place on Election Day, NewsNation affiliate WDAF reported.
“We are proud to be a polling location & condemn this attempt at voter intimidation,” museum officials wrote. “Our democracy is something that generations of veterans, including those in WWI, have fought to defend. We hope you’ll vote today & make your voice heard.”
Police responded to the site early Tuesday, as workers covered up the vandalism with blue tarp. Officers have since left the scene.
