Woman wanted for kidnapping of child in Tennessee arrested
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman wanted for the especially aggravated kidnapping of a child in Shelby County was arrested after her cell phone pinged nearly 100 miles away in Grenada County, Mississippi, authorities say.
The Grenada County Sheriff’s Office said deputies located Regan Kelly, 28, Monday on Carpenter Road. They said the alleged kidnapped child was found at the residence along with another child.
The children were not hurt and were released to Child Protective Services.
The Grenada County Sheriff’s Office said they began working with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Millington Police, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, and Grenada Police after warrants were issued for Kelly’s arrest. They have not released any other details.
Kelly is also charged with aggravated burglary.
Kelly was booked in the Grenada County Jail and then extradited to Tennessee. She is being held in the Shelby County jail on a $50,000 bond.
The Grenada County Sheriff’s Office said both children are now with their legal guardians.
