COVENTRY, United Kingdom (KFOR/Storyful) – During a joyous reunion, guide dog brothers Carlo and Chips seemed to immediately recognize each other after being separated as puppies a decade earlier.
The Golden Retriever/Labrador mixed breeds – one gold and one black – were part of a litter born in 2014 in the United Kingdom.
Carlo and Chips were trained together as part of a guide dog program before they were separated.
Carlo spent the previous decade guiding his owner, Charles Bloch, in Coventry. With Carlo, Bloch, who only had 10% of his vision remaining, was able to earn a college degree as well as hold a job.
Chips, meanwhile, was sent to an owner in Peterborough.
“I found out that Chips had retired and was being rehomed,” Bloch said. “I was so surprised when I discovered that a friend of mine, who also lives in Coventry and volunteers for Guide Dogs had been selected as his rehomer.”
Bloch arranged the reunion on Jan. 5 at a local park (as seen in the video in the player above).
With tails wagging, Carlo and Chips greeted each other and immediately began playing.
“They certainly seemed to recognise each other and had the best time racing around together,” Bloch said.
The brothers will get to see a lot more of each other in the years to come, as both owners plan to keep the park meet-ups going on a regular basis.
