CHICAGO — Thousands participated in ‘Run to Remember’ to honor fallen police officers, including Officer Luis Huesca who was laid to rest earlier this week.

The 5k ‘Run to Remember’ race took place Saturday morning for the 20th year from the Gold Star Families Memorial at Soldier Field through the Museum Campus and along the lake.

About 5,000 people ran for officers, family members and other loved ones. The Chicago Memoriam Foundation is the largest fundraiser for the Chicago Police that provides emotional and financial support to families killed or severely injured in the line of duty.

In the last two decades, the foundation has donated $2 million dollars to those families. Already, runners have raised 350,000 dollars. The memorial bears the names of more than 600 officers the city has lost.
