CHICAGO (NewsNation Now) — Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot issued another stay-at-home advisory for the city Thursday, slated to go into effect Monday, Nov. 16.

Chicago residents are advised to only leave home to go to work or school, or for essential needs such as seeking medical care, going to the grocery store or pharmacy, picking up food, or receiving deliveries.

Additionally, residents are strongly advised to:

  • Stay home unless for essential reasons
  • Stop having guests over—including family members you do not live with
  • Cancel traditional Thanksgiving celebrations
  • Avoid non-essential and out-of-state travel. if traveling is essential, quarantining or testing negative prior to travel is required depending on which state a traveler is coming from

This advisory is scheduled to remain in place for 30 days or until the Commissioner of Health determines a change to the guidance is appropriate.

“Here’s the bottom line: if we continue on the path we’re on and don’t step up to do the things we know work, we estimate we will lose 1,000 more Chicagoans to this virus by the end of the year,” Lightfoot said in a tweet.

Lightfoot also said the city also launched a Protect Chicago strategy that includes new regulatory actions, street-level activations and citywide awareness.
