Electric shocks leave 5 swimmers injured in Indiana
LOGANSPORT, Ind. — Five people were shocked while they were swimming in a pool in Logansport on Sunday afternoon.
A Logansport Police Department spokesperson confirmed officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of High Street around 2:35 p.m. Soon after they arrived at the scene, police learned five people had been injured by electric shocks — three juveniles and two adults. None of the juveniles were more than 16 years old.
LPD reported that all five of the individuals who were swimming in the pool were taken to a local hospital. Two of the juveniles were transferred to different facilities for additional treatment.
An LPD spokesperson called the incident a “freak accident.” Police indicated a wire on a pool pump was pinched. When the wire was pinched, a protective cover was broken. The exposed wire ultimately hit the pool water and shocked the five swimmers.
Law enforcement confirmed the accident did not lead to any fatalities. LPD also confirmed there were no signs of any criminal activity at the scene.
