WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Kansas Highway Patrol was busy Monday responding to several crashes caused by blowing dust and low visibility.

The first crash happened in Gray County, four miles west of Ensign, just after 3 p.m. The KHP says a Nissan Murano slowed due to blowing dust on U.S. Highway 56. A Chevy Impala then rear-ended the Murano. The driver of the Impala, a teenager from Meade, was taken to Meade District Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Murano wasn’t injured.

The next crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on Interstate 70 just west of K-247 in Trego County. The KHP says an eastbound Toyota Rav 4 was unable to see a Chevy Equinox with a camper slowing down. The Rav 4 then crashed into the back of the camper. A GMC pickup then crashed into the back of the Rav 4. The driver and two passengers in the Rav 4, all from Oklahoma City, were taken to Hays Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver of the Equinox, a Quinter teenager, was taken to Trego County Hospital with a minor injury. The driver and three occupants in the GMC pickup from Alabama were not injured.

The last crash worked by the KHP happened on I-70, seven miles east of Wilson, around 5 p.m. A Chevy Express slowed and was rear-ended by a Subaru Outback. The driver of the Outback was not injured.
