LeBron James’ foundation to build sports complex for at-risk elementary students
AKRON, Ohio (FOX8/News Nation) — An event and entertainment center in Ohio is partnering with basketball legend LeBron James’ foundation by adding a sports complex and community space for elementary school students.
The Tangier will turn the top level of its parking structure into the complex for students of I Promise School for at-risk children, News Nation affiliate FOX8 reported. The public school was opened in 2018 by the LeBron James Family Foundation.
The Tangier is within walking distance of the school.
Students will not only use the complex for sports, but for physical education classes and assemblies.
“As our family continues to grow every year, it’s getting harder to find a space that can accommodate all of us at once,’’ said Michele Campbell, Executive Director of the LeBron James Family Foundation. “The Tangier not only has the space, but also the passion for our families, so it’s a perfect fit.”
The LeBron James Family Foundation serves 1,500 Akron students and families.
The three-time NBA champion grew up playing basketball in his hometown of Akron, located south of Cleveland.
