Wisconsin farmer plants 2 million sunflowers
BRISTOL, Wis. (NewsNation Now) — A Wisconsin famer planted 2 million sunflowers to bring smiles back to people during the pandemic.
For nearly a century Thompson’s Strawberry Farm has been a family run produce business, but recently 4th generation farmer Scott Thompson made an addition to the plots of land.
“We never planted a flower on this farm until this year,” said Thompson.
This year Thompson planted 22 acres of sunflowers on several plots.
“The way we designed it, you’ll be able to forget about reality,” said Thompson. “Just be swallowed up by the sunflowers so the only thing you think about are the sunflowers out here.”
Nancy Olson has stopped by the farm twice in 2020 and has been a regular there for years.
“Actually when you think of a sunflower you think of happiness,” Olson said. “We came out earlier in the season to pick the big sunflowers, and now we are here for the raspberries, but we were walking over to this side and we can see the young sunflowers so it’s not over yet.”
This sunflower addition has welcomed thousands of people to the farm and Scott says the flowers will continue at Thompson’s Strawberry Farm.
“I’m just absolutely over the moon to be able to give this to our community.”
