BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A man was subway surfing when he was fatally hit by a train in Brooklyn on Tuesday, according to sources.
Witnesses told police they saw the man on top of the train near the Prospect Park station around 8 a.m., sources told Newsnation affiliate PIX11 News. B and Q trains experienced significant service disruptions through the remainder of the morning commute after the man was struck, according to the MTA.
Police have not released the man’s identity.
The deadly incident happened on the heels of another death last week in which 14-year-old Alam Reyes was killed while subway surfing on top of a Coney Island-bound F train, according to authorities.
New York lawmakers recently wrote to social media companies, asking them to remove videos of subway surfing to deter the act. The MTA also launched an anti-subway surfing campaign, which includes public safety announcements, in September.
The NYPD also deploys special patrols of the J, Z and No. 7 lines in elevated sections of stations when schools let out for the day.
The MTA told PIX11 News it has worked with all the major social media companies on this issue. The agency said it has stopped or removed more than 10,000 videos and photos of subway surfing so far.
