HOPKINTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Multiple organizations teamed up to rescue more than two dozen golden retrievers from a Hopkinton, Rhode Island, home Friday.
The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA), Hopkinton police, and an environmental scientist went to the Alton Bradford Road home to investigate the alleged unlicensed breeding of puppies.
Police said they found 20 puppies and seven adult dogs living in “horrendous” conditions.
The owner of the dogs willfully turned them over and will not face charges, according to the RISPCA. The dogs were taken to a facility to be evaluated and cared for by veterinarians.
The RISPCA expects the puppies will be ready for adoption in four to six weeks, while the adults will be available in three to six months.
