SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR) – Police dashcam video shows two planes getting scarily close as each took off from New York’s Syracuse Hancock International Airport on Monday.

The video, captured by a North Syracuse Police Department car, shows the paths of the flights eventually crossing.

To the eye, it appeared as if the two were about to collide but didn’t.

Flight Radar 24 tracking lists the planes as a Delta flight destined for Washington, D.C., leaving the airport at 11:43 a.m., and an American Airlines (Eagle) taking off at 11:40 a.m. headed for New York City.

Both planes were Mitsubishi CRJ-900LR models.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Syracuse Hancock International Airport deferred airspace-related questions to the Federal Aviation Administration, but said, “There were no disruptions to airport operations today.”

On Monday afternoon, an FAA spokesperson told NewsNation affiliate WSYR that the agency was “checking.”

Three hours later, the FAA said, “An air traffic controller instructed Blue Streak Flight 5511 to go around at Syracuse Hancock International Airport to keep it safely separated from an aircraft that was departing on the same runway.”
