(NewsNation) — New York City Mayor Eric Adams deferred all questions relating to a criminal prosecution against him on bribery and fraud charges during his weekly press conference.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Adams repeatedly referred questions regarding his indictment to campaign attorney, Vito Pitta.

When asked about President Obama saying black men are “putting women down” by supporting former President Donald Trump last week, Adams said the question should be for the former president, before stressing the importance of voting.

“I don’t have an opinion on it,” Adams said. “We just need to get out and exercise our right to vote. No matter what ethnicity you are, no matter what gender you are, exercise your right to vote. You can’t complain if you don’t vote.”

Adams began his press conference by stressing that his focus is keeping New York City safe. The mayor spoke about his goal to make New York City the safest of all cities across America.

He announced that Chauncey Parker is the new deputy mayor of public safety. He was previously the assistant.

Mona Suazo, a former NYPD officer, will become the assistant deputy mayor of public safety, taking over Parker’s former position.
