Church collapses in downtown New London, Connecticut
NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — A church collapsed Thursday afternoon in downtown New London, according to authorities.
The collapse happened at the intersection of State Street and Union Street.
The public is asked to stay away from the downtown area, including Union Street, Masonic Street, State Street, Eugene O’Neill Drive and Gov. Winthrop Boulevard.
New London Mayor Michael Passero said searchers are going through the debris, and that officials don’t know of anyone who would have been inside at the time.
The scene was still active, as of about 2:40 p.m.
