Pastor’s 6-year-old daughter dies after ‘freak’ badminton accident
PORTLAND, Maine (WJW) — A little girl has died following a tragic accident during a family vacation in Maine.
Six-year-old Lucy Morgan of New Jersey was outside watching her siblings play badminton when a metal piece of her 10-year-old brother’s racket broke off and struck her in the skull, according to a Maine State Police press release obtained by People.
“We were eating a quick lunch by the lake and the kids decided to try badminton in the front yard,” the girl’s father Jesse Morgan, who is a pastor, wrote on his blog. “[My wife] Bethany and I were relaxing in the back when we heard screaming.”
What they found in the yard was an unresponsive child. But she was still breathing.
“I held her with Bethany crying out to God,” Jesse said on his blog, New Creation Living.
The “freak accident” occurred at the beginning of the month. She was rushed to the hospital in Portland, Maine, from where they were staying in Limerick. Jesse said Lucy had emergency surgery to relieve pressure in her head.
She reportedly died just four days later.
“Her personality was very bubbly and also reserved at times,” Jesse told FOX News Digital. “Once you got to know her, she was very, very outspoken and a lot of fun. She was a tough kid and played soccer really hard.”
During the family vacation, the 6-year-old had told her parents it was the “best week of her life.”
