HARRISBURG, Pa. (NewsNation Now) — A Pennsylvania man is celebrating an extra special 37th birthday after surviving a nearly 100-day battle with COVID-19.
Family and friends gathered to celebrate Michael Ford Jr.’s three month triumph over the virus and his belated August birthday.
Ford told NewsNation affiliate WHTM, “It is a blessing and I appreciate all of the love and support that my family has gave me and friends and people in general and I just want to say thank you so much.”
Most of Ford’s coronavirus struggle was spent in the ICU at UPMC Pinnacle Community Osteopathic in Harrisburg.
His aunt, Kira Wilson, recalled, “There were many many long days, myself, my family, his mother, my mother, my sister, spent on the phone with nurses and doctors just getting the most up-to-date information on Michael’s care.”
Ford described having a lot of rough days, “but my family and friends helped me make it through.”
There’s still rehab ahead for Ford, but he is now on the road to recovery.
