(WHTM) – Medline has recalled 1.5 million bed rails after two people died in care facilities.
The company says when attached to a bed, users can get trapped in the bed rail or between the rail and the mattress, possibly causing serious injury or death by asphyxiation
Two deaths — one in July 2019 and another in November 2023 — have been reported to the company, including that of a 76-year-old woman at a senior nursing facility in Iowa and an 87-year-old woman at a residential care facility in South Carolina.
The recalled bed rails have model numbers MDS6800BA and MDS6800BAH with black metal tubing and a rounded black foam rubber grip handle. They are printed on a label on the support frame.

The rails were sold nationwide from July 2009 to March 2024 on Medline’s website and at retailers including Amazon, CVS, Walgreens and Walmart.
