74-year-old dies trying to stop child from stealing beer
AUGUSTA (WJBF) — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the death of 74-year-old woman.
On February 20th, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Coroner’s Office of the death of 74-year-old Chong Chon which resulted from a head injury she sustained while working at the Get It to Go.
The incident happened January 24th at 3232 Deans Bridge Road in Augusta.
The Richmond County Criminal Investigation Division (CID) immediately began investigating this incident and learned Chon attempted to stop two females and a male juvenile from shoplifting a 12 pack of beer.
The male juvenile pushed Chon, causing her to fall to the floor and hit her head.
The subjects fled the store and Chon went to the hospital where she died to her injury on February 20th.
On February 23, 2024, the CID was able to identify the male juvenile and charge him with Murder While in Commission of a Felony.
