GREENSVILLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) – The driver of a passenger bus carrying over 50 people is facing a reckless driving charge after the bus crashed off of Interstate 95 in Greensville County, Virginia, early Saturday morning.

State troopers responded to a report of a bus crash on I-95 South near the Skippers Road exit just before 3 a.m. on Saturday.

The passenger bus — associated with Autobus Fleur de Lys, Inc., of Canada — was carrying 54 people at the time of the crash, including its driver, 71-year-old Alain Guay, according to Virginia State Police.

Troopers determined that Guay had run off the highway and hit several trees. He has been charged with reckless driving; no other information as to the cause of the crash was immediately available.

Photos from the scene of the accident appear to show the bus in a grassy area alongside the road, tilted on its right into a line of trees. There were also several ladders extending from the ground to the bus’ front and side windows, though it’s unclear if passengers were forced to disembark via the windows. (The bus door appeared inaccessible.)

Two passengers were hurt in the crash, though their injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to state police.

Saturday’s crash follows another multi-bus accident in Greensville last month when three Greensville County school buses became involved in a chain-reaction crash at Greensville Elementary School on March 21. The school’s superintendent said one of the drivers had rear-ended another bus in the drop-off line, causing the accident. No students were seriously injured.
