VAN BURUEN COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Several departments teamed up to rescue an injured hiker from Fall Creeks Falls State Park over the weekend.
First responders said they were called to the state park around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 23 to respond to a report about a person who was injured at the base of Cane Creek Falls in the Cable Trail area.
Fall Creek Falls State Park rangers reportedly found the hiker in the water at the base of the falls suffering from a hip injury.
Several agencies responded to assist with the rescue by running rope systems.
Due to the location and high temperatures, crews said they had to request more personnel to help in the rescue efforts.
It took crews approximately four hours to remove the injured hiker. The hiker was then flown to a local hospital to receive treatment, officials said.
After the rescue, Piney Volunteer Fire Department took to social media to thank the departments who assisted in the rescue.
“Thank you to all that assisted with the rescue and brought water and Gatorades to the scene,” read the post.
Dunlap Fire Department, Pikeville Department, Doyle Volunteer Fire Department, White County Office of Emergency Management, Sparta Rescue Squad, Bledsoe County Rescue Squad, Bledsoe County EMA, White County Rescue Squad, Sequatchie County Rescue Squad, and the Mt. Crest Volunteer Fire Department all assisted in the hours-long rescue.
No additional information about the hiker was immediately released.
