MIAMI, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida delivery driver put a 4-month-old child back in his stroller after striking the baby boy and his mother in a hit-and-run crash, police said.

Miami-Dade police said in a statement that the mom was pushing her son in a stroller and walking her dog when the driver struck them at a Miami intersection on Thursday, Aug. 22.

The infant was ejected from his stroller and landed on the ground, while his 30-year-old mother was “knocked off of her feet,” police said.

Following the crash, investigators said the driver got out of the vehicle, set the stroller upright, and put the baby back inside before driving away.

According to NBC’s South Florida affiliate, WTVJ, the mother sustained a skull fracture and a brain bleed, and her infant suffered a forehead laceration. Police said both were treated at Memorial Regional Hospital.

The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Sarahy Naybeth Parra-Ovalles, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.

WTVJ reported that Parra-Ovalles was an Amazon delivery driver and that she was arrested after officers interviewed a witness whose security cameras recorded the crash.

Although police did not disclose the company that Parra-Ovalles worked for, WTVJ and CBS News affiliate WFOR reported that an Amazon spokesperson released the following statement: “This is a terrible incident, and our thoughts are with the family. We’re looking into the matter and will support law enforcement in their investigation. The driver in question is no longer delivering on behalf of Amazon.”
